About the PSAT Test
The PSAT is comparatively shorter and easier than the SAT, making it a great practice exam.
Students get exposure to the pattern of the SAT before actually taking the SAT, and along with this US students can benefit by getting an opportunity to gain the National Merit Scholarship Program.
What is the PSAT Exam and its importance?
PSAT is a preliminary SAT, which means it's a test taken by students before the actual SAT. It helps students get exposure to the pattern and format of the SAT. Students in grades 8, 9, 10 and 11 are eligible to take this test.
There are three versions:
- PSAT 8/9 for Grades 8 and 9
- PSAT 10 for Grade 10
- PSAT/NMSQT, usually taken in Grade 10 or 11
The PSAT evaluates core academic skills in evidence-based reading, writing and mathematics, and it acts as a diagnostic tool that highlights a student's strengths and areas for improvement before attempting the actual SAT.
Scholarship Opportunities: Other than practice, the PSAT can help students gain scholarships in the US. The students of grade 11 in the U.S. can aim for the National Merit Scholarship Program and receive academic recognition with high scores on this test. However, this scholarship eligibility applies mainly to U.S. students.
