Here is a breakdown of the GRE exam format and related information:

  • GRE Registration Cost: The GRE exam costs USD $220. Additional fees may apply for rescheduling or sending scores to extra institutions.
  • Format: The GRE test is computer-adaptive. Except for the Analytical Writing section, all questions are in multiple-choice format.
  • GRE Test Centers: You can take the GRE throughout the year at approved test centers, or opt for the online GRE test if available in your region.

Recent Updates to the GRE Test

ETS has made several changes to improve the GRE exam experience:
  1. Shorter Test Duration: The GRE now takes 1 hour and 58 minutes instead of 4 hours.
  2. Fewer Questions: The total number of questions has been reduced to 54.
  3. New Section Format: The Analytical Writing section now includes only one task. Verbal and Quantitative sections have 27 questions each.
  4. Faster GRE Scores: Results are now available within 8–10 days.
  5. Simplified Structure: The unscored section has been removed. You can skip or return to questions within each section.
