SAT Registration & Cancellation Deadline: Everything You Need to Know

SAT Registration & Cancellation Deadline Everything You Need to Know

The SAT is an essential milestone for students aiming for higher education, but sometimes unforeseen circumstances arise, making it necessary to cancel a test registration. Whether due to scheduling conflicts, a change in preparation plans, or personal reasons, canceling your SAT registration must be done correctly to avoid unnecessary fees.

In this section, we will walk you through the step-by-step process of canceling your SAT, the deadlines you must meet, the fees associated with cancellation, and alternative options you might want to consider.

1. How to Cancel Your SAT Registration

Canceling your SAT registration is a straightforward process that can be done online through your My SAT account. However, once you cancel, you cannot undo the action—if you later decide to take the test on the same date, you will need to register again and pay the full fee.

Step-by-Step Guide to Canceling Your SAT Registration:

Step 1: Sign in to your My SAT account
Step 2: Locate the test registration you want to cancel.
Step 3: Click on the “I would like to” menu and select Cancel Registration
Step 4: Review any applicable cancellation fees.
Step 5: Confirm your cancellation request.

📌 Important Note: Once your cancellation is processed, your seat for the test is officially forfeited. If you change your mind later, you will need to register again and pay the full SAT registration fee.

2. SAT Cancellation Fees & Deadlines

To avoid financial loss, it’s important to cancel your SAT registration before the deadline. The College Board imposes cancellation fees based on when you submit your request.

Cancellation Period Fee Charged
Cancel before the change deadline $29
Cancel after the change deadline but before 11:59 p.m. ET on the Thursday before test day $39

📌 Fee Waiver Benefits: If you are using a College Board fee waiver, your unused waiver benefits will be restored if you cancel your SAT. This allows you to use the waiver for a future test without additional cost.

3. SAT Test Dates and Cancellation Deadlines (2024–2025)

Below is a list of upcoming SAT test dates along with their respective registration and cancellation deadlines:

SAT Test Date Registration Deadline Cancellation Deadline (Final Day to Cancel for $39 Fee)
March 8, 2025 February 21, 2025 March 6, 2025
May 3, 2025 April 18, 2025 May 1, 2025
June 7, 2025 May 22, 2025 June 5, 2025

📌 Key Deadline Alert: The latest you can cancel your SAT is 11:59 p.m. ET on the Thursday before test day. Cancellation requests after this deadline will not be accepted, and no refunds will be issued.

📌 For Students Borrowing a College Board Device: If you plan to use a borrowed device from College Board, you must request it at least 30 days before test day

4. Should You Cancel or Reschedule Your SAT?

Canceling your SAT means you lose your test seat and must register again, paying the full test fee. If your reason for cancellation is flexible, consider rescheduling your SAT instead, which costs $29—less than the cancellation fee.

Here’s a quick comparison to help you decide:

Scenario Best Option
You are not ready and need more time to prepare Reschedule
You have a schedule conflict on test day Reschedule
You no longer want to take the SAT at all Cancel
You registered for the wrong test centre Reschedule
You suddenly fall sick just before test day Cancel

By understanding the SAT cancellation process and planning ahead, you can save money, reduce stress, and manage your test registration efficiently
